REDISCOVERING KATE CAREW, a 60-minute historical documentary and multi-platform digital media project on Mary Williams (1869-1961), known by her pseudonym as Kate Carew, the most notable American female caricaturist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries whose caricatures were lost for almost a century until now. This tale of a singular woman who follows her dreams from a rugged California frontier to a life of fame as a gadfly in the Gilded Age urban societies of New York City and London. The heady social circle she observed stood in stark contrast to a private life of conflict, heartbreak and the pressures of working in a fiercely competitive and male dominated newspaper industry. The legacy of a remarkable American heroine.
