The historical documentary, Show & Tell: The Drawings and Interviews of Kate Carew, was recently awarded a grant from NYSCA, The New York Humanities Council; under NYSCA’s Individual Artists program.
An artist whose life was as bold and startling as her work, Kate Carew battled physical infirmity; failed marriages; and a male-dominated art establishment to become one of the most acclaimed and influential Caricature artists and painters of her generation.
Carew also had a passionate interest in politics with her feminist views informed by the suffragette Revolution; she was an outspoken advocate of gender equality and a powerful symbol of the feminist movement throughout her life. Kate Carew is a one hour documentary which tells Carew’s story as a woman, as an artist, and as a symbol of women’s rights and America’s progress.
